Shooting "Sports"

The Green Party is opposed to shooting and hunting and would bring an end to these 'sports'. Until this happens The Green Party are calling for magazines that promote the shooting and hunting of animals to have blank wrapping and be kept out of the reach of children.

1.    Do you support shooting sports conducted according to the law and the current codes of practice?
        No  

2.    If elected would you join the All Party Group on Shooting and Conservation?
          No  

(Update ;We shall extend the Animal Welfare Act to cover all fishing activities. So not quite a ban.)

Dear Mr Adrian Windisch

Please outline your position with respect to shooting, hunting and fishing.

I am emailing you as a candidate for my constituency in the 2015 general election to ask for your views on shooting sports.

Shooting sports have a key role in the economy and management of the countryside. The recently published ‘Value of Shooting’ report shooting shows that:

- Shooting supports the equivalent of 74,000 full time jobs in the UK
- Shooting is worth £2 billion to the UK economy (GVA)
- Shooting is involved in the management of two-thirds of the rural land area
- 600,000 people in the UK shoot live quarry, clay pigeons or targets
- Shoot providers spend nearly £250 million a year on conservation
