Bonkers Twyford Airport

The reshuffle has revealed a plan for an airport in Twyford! So far everyone local who has commented had opposed it.

David Cameron got rid of a London transport minister to bring in one from a different area who would look at it again. Maybe people in the midlands want us to have an Airport in Twyford but so much for local people under the Tory misrule.

Tory, Lab and LibDems positions on airport building seems to depend on what they think will get them most votes. Londoners are against expanding Heathrow so the big parties locally are against. A midlands MP may not care about this though.

Greens are different, more principled, less jumping on bandwagons. If we are serious about reducing emissions then more airports is wrong. Simple really. Not to mention the massive public subsidy needed in times of austerity. Or that the wealty fly far more than the poorest.

Susainable transport is not just for the rich or the short term, but for all of us and for future generations.

- bit.ly/OS1Nj1 #woky #rdgnews #rdgpol subsidy huge, unsustainable and unpopular #toryfail

NOT GREEN !!!
Live in Twyford and in area for nearly 50 years. If we really need another airport/runway let Boris have his way or even better take off and land over the sea. Where is Teresa May in all this?? she is a TRAITOR to the people who voted for her and the rest of us.
This Government with it's build on green belt is devaluating property and the rumours or fact od Twyford Airport will blight all our properties.

Expanding Airports woyld result in greater emissions. So all greens will be agqinst this. No sign of banwagon jumping here.

Cheers Richard, and a good point. Voters can tell May as well as Redwood, Wilson and Sharma at the next General Election.

"The wealthy fly more than the poorest".......I love it!
That is really stating the obvious!
Seriously though this has to be a badly timed April 1st joke.
The obvious answer is to build another runway at Gatwick. We ought to face the fact that we are and will always be an island and air travel is kinda useful to get on and off it.

That is not at all obvious Howard, though it seems a better answer than Heathrow. Airports are underused in other parys of the country, so more capacity is not needed, more efficient use is.

The most wealthy can have holiday homes and fly many times a year, most people fly once a year, the poorest rarely if at all. But the poorest subsidise the rich so flying is cheaper than trains/ buses in many cases. And this all asunes we have enough energy/ fuel, which i doubt. Future generations will question how we wasted their resources

How is it that the "poorest subsidise the rich"......please explain.
Trains are so dear partly because of the system of franchising of the areas. Quite obviously if the train company has to pay the government a couple of hundred million pounds per year to have the right to operate this money must come from somewhere......the passengers in inflated ticket prices.

The poorest use bus and rail more, fares incluse fuel tax. Planes dont pay fuel tax. Also there are regions that subsidise air travel, there was a scandal a few yeas ago that revealed this in Europe.

Rail tickets include big profits for shareholders, was cheaper when we owned it so nationalise it.
