Putin Makes Himself Look Ridiculous

In an interview with CNN Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said the Georgian conflict may have been staged to secure a victory for one of the presidential candidates in the USA. Putin likes to present himself as a strong man, but now he is claiming to be a puppet whose strings are pulled by the USA! He is clearly trying to excuse his invasion and continued occupation of Georgia, and influence the USA election.

Putin said
“We have serious reasons to believe that American citizens were right at the heart of the military action. This would have implications for American domestic policy. If this is confirmed, we will have grounds to suspect that somebody in the U.S. has created this conflict to aggravate the situation and create a competitive advantage for one of the presidential candidates”.

“As far as the perception of these events by the general public goes, it depends not only on politicians, but also on how artful they are in controlling the mass media. And our American colleagues do this much better than we do and there's a lot we can learn from them”. Well he has learned a bit, giving Russian passports to citizens of other countries and using that as an excuse to send in the troops sounds like its from the CIA.

“We didn’t attack anyone, we were attacked and therefore we need guarantees that we won’t be attacked again, and that our citizens won't be killed. They are trying to present us as aggressors”.

So why have they broken their word and continue to occupy a foreign country? On the one hand he is pretending that Russia is still a superpower, and other nations must do what they say. At the same time he is saying he is being pushed into his actions by the USA! Some commentators are referring to this conflict as a return to the cold war, I don't think Russia is that powerful on the world stage any more, but it will be a cold war in another sense. Russia have huge power reserves and have already shown willing to cut off the supply for political reasons. If he does this again, other countries will indeed be cold.
